5 Must-Have Routines to Better Yourself and Improve Your Life
Are you on a self-improvement journey and trying to figure out what intentional habits to prioritize?
Well, let’s dive into some simple routines that can improve your life.
These routines can help you decide what habits to implement to help you become the person you’re on the journey to becoming.
The Importance and Impacts of Having a Routine
A routine is a framework of habits that when done together help bring balance to your life.
I don’t view a routine as this fixed or rigid series of activities you’re mindlessly engaging in. I see a routine as intentionally choosing essential habits that pull you closer to achieving your desires in life.
And by focusing on life-changing habits, you start to see the bigger picture. You become empowered and start to focus your energy on daily priorities that actually matter.
5 Useful Routines to Improve Your Life
Here are 5 go-to routines you can implement to better yourself!
1. Solid Morning Routine to Kickstart Your Day
For a long time, I never saw the importance of having a morning routine. I used to think routines were overrated, but how you begin your mornings can set the tone for the rest of your day.
So my first piece of advice is to wake up early. You don’t have to wake up at 5 am like all the gurus suggest. Just early enough to start your day in alignment with your current lifestyle or the one you’d like to have.
Also, don’t hit the snooze button on your alarm clock. It only delays the inevitable – you have to get out of bed eventually. Trust me, I know how amazing it feels under the blankets, but roll yourself out of bed.
Additional tips for a consistent morning routine:
- Make your bed each morning.
- Have a cup of your favorite flavored coffee.
- Eat breakfast.
- Make time for me-time.
One thing you’ll probably want to avoid is checking your phone first thing in the morning. I’m currently doing a social media detox that prevents me from checking my social media accounts during certain times of the day.
My #1 Tip for The Best Morning Routine: Make every effort to go to bed early so that you get enough sleep. But remember, your quality of sleep is just as important as how many hours you sleep.
2. Spiritual Routine for Boosting Spiritual Growth
We don’t often think about our spirituality as being part of a routine. But having a routine is a perfect way to incorporate your spirituality into your everyday life.
If you’d like to start a spiritual journey, read about why I started my journey and learn how you can craft a unique and personalized spiritual path that truly aligns with you.
What does a spiritual growth routine look like?
- Begin your day in a sacred space.
- Practice gratitude.
- Engage in spiritual practices.
- Connect with source/higher power.
I’d like to point out that having a sacred space to practice your spirituality doesn’t have to be anything fancy. It just needs to be a space in which you feel at peace and have some meaningful items.

My #1 Tip for a Spiritual Growth Routine: Make time to connect with your spirituality and spiritual practices daily. Even 5 minutes will work if you feel you’re too busy to dedicate additional time.
3. Self-Care Routine for Essential Well-Being
I’ll be the first to admit that I sometimes think of self-care as an afterthought. It’s a bad habit of mine that I’m trying to break.
But self-care is super important for our health and well-being. The first step to prioritizing self-care is to note what you need in your life right now. Think about this holistically – focusing on the mind, body, and soul.
For example, let’s say I’m craving mental stimulation. Reading a book, solving a puzzle, or doing Sudoko would be my go-to activities.
Here are some of the benefits of having a self-care routine:
- No more feeling burnt out and overwhelmed
- More energy and time to dedicate to your passions

My #1 Tip for a Helpful Self-Care Routine: Your self-care routine should be crafted with YOU in mind. This means that your self-care activities should be things that you enjoy, make you feel at peace, and add value to your life.
4. Mindset Routine for Shifts and Awareness
Mindset was not a concept that I was familiar with until 2019. But once I discovered it and started doing the work on my mindset, my life changed for the better.
I no longer felt like a victim. I was in control of everything. Shifting my mindset changed the way I perceived my reality.
Here are some tips and tricks to help with your mindset:
- Awareness: Become aware of your thoughts and feelings and recognize how they impact your actions.
- Negativity: Negative thoughts will happen. There is no way around it. Challenge the negative thought and try to steer it towards something less negative.
- Positivity: Surround yourself with positive things. It can be positive affirmations, quotes, people, and experiences.
- Growth: Mindset shifting is a muscle. The more you work it, the more it grows. Be open to learning and facing your challenges head-on.
My #1 Tip for a Positive Mindset Routine: Take it one day at a time, one thought at a time. Those little instances of awareness and challenging negative thoughts are all coming together to change your life for the better.
5. Productivity Routine for Goals and Succes
Getting your life together is at the center of a great productivity routine. And getting your life together doesn’t mean you have everything figured out.
But it does mean you have some idea of what you want out of life. So when it comes to being productive, you can work on doing the right stuff that will get you closer to your goals instead of just doing random tasks and calling it productivity.
My #1 productivity task: I stumbled upon the Pomodoro technique within the last year and it has made a big difference in the way I work. The Pomodoro technique is where you focus on a specific task for a certain amount of time and then take a short break before going back to the tasks.
I mostly listen to the Sherry Formula on YouTube for Pomodoro. She plays soothing and focused music for about 2 to 4 hours broken out into 25 minutes of work. I always leave these sessions feeling inspired and at peace.
